Diamond Wine Trivet: A Blend of Function and Aesthetic

The Diamond Wine Trivet is a unique piece of home accessory that elevates the presentation of wine. The design was inspired by the shared experience of wine tasting, with a focus on enhancing the communal aspect of the activity. The trivet's design, reminiscent of mid-century modern aesthetics, is inspired by tartrates or "wine diamonds" - potassium bitartrate crystals that separate out of wine during the aging process.

Constructed from American white oak, the Diamond Wine Trivet is designed to cradle six bottles of wine securely. The trivet features upturned edges, making it easy to move the bottles together. The design is versatile, allowing for the bottles to be stored on their side or spread out for display and selection. This multifunctional design aspect was a key consideration during the design process.

The Diamond Wine Trivet was realized using a CNC milling machine, with the final product hand-finished with Odie's Wood Butter. This combination of modern technology and traditional craftsmanship resulted in a product that showcases the luxurious grain of the white oak. The choice of material is a nod to the wine-making process, where white oak is often used in the making of wine barrels.

The design process involved a competitive analysis of wine storage solutions in the market, with a focus on enhancing the communal experience and presentation of wine. The final design was arrived at after several iterations and feedback from a focus group. The Diamond Wine Trivet was started in October 2015 and completed in December 2015 in Orange County, California.

The Diamond Wine Trivet was awarded the Golden A' Design Award in 2017, a testament to the design's outstanding qualities. The award is granted to designs that reflect extraordinary excellence and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics. The Diamond Wine Trivet is a perfect example of a design that marries function and aesthetics, resulting in a product that enhances the wine tasting experience.
